La Venaria Reale is a masterpiece of international Baroque inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. After ten years of restoration work to recreate the original splendor, today the estate is home to a wealth of activities: entertainment, performances, events, concerts, and exceptional exhibitions that go hand in hand with a relaxing experience of nature, sports, and the finest food and wine.
The Venaria Reale estate comprises the vast Gardens, the imposing and refined architecture of the Reggia, the Park of La Mandria and the old Town of Venaria - an environmental and architectural continuum of extraordinary charm, an immense space that is multifaceted and inspiring.
The Reggia
The monumental palace - that extends over an area of 80,000 square meters - is home to some of the finest examples of universal Baroque: the enchanting Hall of Diana designed by Amedeo di Castellamonte, the breathtaking Great Gallery and the solemn Church of St. Hubert, the grandiose complex of the Juvarra Stables designed by Filippo Juvarra in the 18th century, the sumptuous decorations, the famous Bucentaur, and the spectacular Fountain of the Stag in the Court of Honor. These make up the unique setting of the Theater of History and Magnificence, the permanent display - almost 2,000 m long - devoted to the House of Savoy, that spans from the basement level to the piano nobile of the Reggia.
The Gardens
The Gardens appear today as a perfectly balanced combination of ancient and modern elements, in a boundless scenario where archaeological findings and contemporary artworks dialogue in harmony: the 17th century grottoes, the remains of the Fountain of Hercules and the Temple of Diana, the restored Great Pond, the Grand Parterre, the Alleys, the Flower Garden and the Rose Garden, the intriguing Fantacasino, and Italy’s largest Potager Royal create a unique scenario which is unparalleled among Italian historical gardens thanks to its glorious perspectives and the vastness of the natural scenery against the backdrop of the Park of La Mandria and the mountain peaks of the Alps.
Exhibitions and events
La Venaria Reale is not a “museum”, but rather a “contemporary Palace”: its vast spaces provide wonderful opportunities to celebrate the joy of living by reconciling the historical heritage and the visitors' needs and expectations. Almost every day the Venaria Reale estate is home to concerts, performances, live shows and cultural events that attract a vast and varied public to this outstanding site. A rich calendar of exhibitions about art, history and Italian excellences are organized regularly in the Rooms of the Arts and the Juvarra Stables - the two extraordinary exhibition spaces of the Reggia.
