I NOFX si formano a Berkeley, in California, nel 1983. Il gruppo comprende Fat Mike (Mike Burkett, basso e voce), Eric Melvin (chitarra), Erik Ghint (Erik Sandin, batteria) e El Hefe (Aaron Abeyta, chitarrista, trombettista e cantante).
Dopo le prime incisioni per la Mystic Records esce LIBERAL ANIMATION del 1988, disco autoprodotto a cui fa seguito S&M AIRLINES. Con RIBBED (1991), i NOFX cominciano a ottenere un ottimo seguito fra il pubblico del punk, allargandolo ulteriormente con i successivi WHITE THRASH, TWO HEEBS AND A BEAN (1993), PUNK IN DRUBLIC (1994), HEAVY PETTING ZOO (1996) e SO LONG & THANKS FOR ALL THE SHOES (1997). Nel 2000 esce PUMP UP THE VALUUM. Dopo l’EP REGAINING UNCONSCIOUSNESS (2003), viene realizzato THE WAR ON ERRORISM (sempre del 2003), a cui fanno seguito WOLF IN WOLVES’CLOTHING del 2006 e l’anno successivo il disco dal vivo THEY’VE ACTUALLY GOTTEN WORSE LIVE! (2007). Il disco più recente del gruppo è COASTER, uscito a aprile 2009.
