I Band of Horses vengono formati nel 2004 da Ben Bridwell e Mat Brooke formarono il gruppo nel 2004 dopo la dissoluzione della loro precedente band Carissa's Wierd. L’esordio avviene nel 2006 con il primo disco Everything All The Time, seguito da Cease To Begin, pubblicato nell’ottobre del 2007.
Il gruppo - che negli anni ha diversi cambi di formazione – realizza il terzo lavoro, Infinite Dreams nel 2010.
