Strange Rules is a new interdisciplinary exhibition curated by Mat Dryhurst, Holly Herndon, and Hans Ulrich Obrist. The project centres on Protocol Art, an artistic approach aiming not only to generate images and objects but also to investigate the invisible mechanisms and structures that underpin the production, distribution, and perception of culture in the digital age.
The exhibition takes inspiration from the research of scientist Michael Levin, whose work on biological intelligence and morphogenesis informs and expands the conceptual framework of the project.
It brings together some of the most influential names on the international scene — including Primavera De Filippi, Ayoung Kim, Agnieszka Kurant, Trevor Paglen and Ho Tzu Nyen — alongside new commissions by Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst and Lorenzo Senni, and a new permanent site-specific work by Philippe Parreno.
Alongside Strange Rules, Palazzo Diedo will present Ceal Floyer. Unfinished, curated by Ann Gallagher and Jonathan Watkins. The exhibition, dedicated to the recently deceased British artist, brings together some of her best-known works, including Blind, Light Switch and Unfinished, which gives the show its title.
