The Firenze Red Lions franchise was officially established in 2026 as Italy’s franchise in the American Football League Europe (AFLE), the new European competition aiming to expand professional American football across the continent.
The team’s name and branding are deeply connected to the history of Florence. The lion—a long-standing symbol of the city—represents strength, pride, protection and determination, while the color red reflects both civic identity and passion.
In essence the Firenze Red Lions mission is to build a competitive Italian presence in European American football and to develop a professional structure in a growing sport.
